This session will provide the background healthcare professionals need to better understand what it means to be transgender and how their medical experiences can differ from cisgender individuals. The material will be specifically catered to laboratory professionals using case studies.


At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will be able to:
1. Illustrate the differences between gender and sex.
2. Give an example of healthcare discrimination towards transgender individuals.
3. Describe the barriers involved in providing adequate laboratory medicine to the transgender population.


This recorded presentation is P.A.C.E. ® accredited. The instruction level for this activity is Intermediate. One (1) P.A.C.E. ® contact hour and one and one (1) Florida credit hour in the area General/Interdisciplinary will be awarded to participants.
