CPT, Z-code, LCD: Impact to Genetic Testing Laboratories

In recent years there have been many changes impacting genetic testing laboratories related to CPT codes, Z-codes, LCDs, and NCCI edits, to name a few. We will discuss what genetic testing laboratories need to be aware of to navigate this diverse area that impacts the billing and reimbursement for genetic tests.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify the different types of CPT codes that are used for genetic testing
  2. Summarize why it is important for genetic labs to understand how CPT codes, Z-codes, LCDs, NCCI edits can impact the laboratory
  3. Identify the resources where genetic labs can stay up-to-date on changes in coding
