This presentation will walk through the findings of Andrew Wakefield’s infamous publication in The Lancet, which attempted to link the MMR vaccine and autism. This session will also explore circumstances surrounding the article’s publication as well as its impact on society and medicine. Basic immunology and vaccine design will also be discussed.
At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will be able to:
- Explain the principle of immunization and list types of vaccine
- Describe the controversies associated with the Wakefield paper
- Discuss vaccine safety and efficacy
