Social Determinants of Health and their Influence upon Equity in Laboratory Testing

Social determinants of health play a significant role in equity in healthcare delivery, from access to and outcomes for care. Equity is one of the 6 dimensions of healthcare quality that defines patient safety. This session discusses the role of social determinants of health and how it influences laboratory testing services.

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will be able to:

  • Define social determinants of health.
  • Describe how the patient safety quality aim ‘equity’ is influenced by social determinants of health.
  • Identify one method to improve equity with respect to clinical laboratory testing.

ASCLS is approved as a provider of continuing education programs in the clinical laboratory sciences by the ASCLS P.A.C.E. ® Program. One (1) P.A.C.E. ® contact hour and one (1) Florida credit hour in the area of General will be awarded to participants.
