Recognizing and Managing Bias to Promote Health Equity and Team Engagement

From the 2022 Emerging Laboratory Managers Collaborative Conference (Recorded March 9, 2022)
Presented by Naomi Banks
Increasingly, there is greater awareness and discussion about how biases negatively permeate our environments and experiences. This is especially true in healthcare. The impact may be felt internally within organizational and team culture or externally through the experiences of patients seeking care and/or those providing care. In order to truly promote health equity and fully engage our teams, we must go beyond awareness and discussion. While this presentation will enhance your knowledge about biases, it will invite you to take action in managing your biases through consistent and meaningful practices.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  1. Explain what bias is, how it's formed, the impact of bias and common biases
  2. Develop ways to recognize and manage bias of yourself and your team
