Herding Your Cats: Leading a Multigenerational Workforce

From the 2022 Joint Annual Meeting (recorded 6/27/2022)
Presented by Jessica Lawless, MLS(ASCP)CM

We are in a unique time where there are four generations of people in the workforce at once. It is helpful to know the general characteristics of these distinctive generational cohorts and identify strategies that empower each in a way that builds a cohesive team. Additionally, we will look at the important aspects of managing a multigenerational team and explore common pitfalls that can add tension among the staff.

At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will be able to:

  • Identify the unique characteristics of the four generations currently working in laboratory science professions.
  • Recognize the common pitfalls faced when multiple generations work together as a team.
  • Outline a plan to utilize the strengths of each generation to increase your team's cohesion and effectiveness.
