The Doctorate in Clinical
Laboratory Science (DCLS) is a new advanced practice laboratory professional
developed to address the gaps in laboratory knowledge and to provide laboratory
stewardship on the interprofessional healthcare team. This presentation is designed to be an update
on the progress of the DCLS practitioner including the development of the body
of knowledge, professional responsibilities, advocacy, status of programs, and
integration into the healthcare system.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will be
able to
- Discuss the history of the development of the DCLS.
- Compare the training of a traditional PhD and an Advanced Practice Clinical Doctorate.
- Explain the role of the DCLS in the Healthcare team.
