From the 2023 Clinical Laboratory Educators Conference
(Recorded 3/4/2023)
Presented by Tamera Alpaugh, PhD,
MLS(ASCP), and Lorna Ruskin, EdD,
MLS(ASCP)
Use of simulation in lab
education has accelerated due to workforce shortage and clinical placement
challenges. While other disciplines have developed sim standards, they don’t
align with sim use in lab education. Developing simulation best practices for
laboratory sciences (design, implementation, evaluation) is recommended to
provide students with relevant, quality, and transferable experiences.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will be
able to:
- Summarize the use of simulation in laboratory and other health science education.
- Describe the need for standardized simulation best practices in laboratory education.
- Identify potential best practices to incorporate into laboratory simulation education.
