Developing Educational Resources to Increase Clinical Preceptor Effectiveness

This session will explore the challenges that clinical preceptors from a local internship site experienced in the areas of handling student communications, practical teaching skills, proper learning strategies, and student assessment. A description of preceptors' training modules is included.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will be able to:

  • Review adult learning theories supporting preceptor best practices.
  • Define ways to appraise the gaps in clinical preceptors’ educational skills in providing clinical training.
  • Identify the components of a preceptor training module needed to enhance preceptor skills.
