Featuring two 30-minute presentations:
"Selfies, Scavenger Hunts, and Superheroes" or Increasing Student Engagement through Creative Learning Strategies
This session describes the benefits of integrating creativity projects into the intensive MLT and MLS curriculum. The integration of these projects to promote student engagement and motivation will be demonstrated. Students' creativity projects will be clarified and illustrated.
Escape from the Tox Lab: A Clinical Toxicology Escape Room
This presentation describes the design and implementation of a clinical toxicology escape room activity for MLS students. It will also disclose data about the impact of the activity on toxicology education and student engagement.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will be able to:

  • Identify 2 benefits of providing creative opportunities in a structured, intensive curriculum.
  • Describe the link between creative strategies and applied learning.
  • Detail 3 examples of creative learning projects that can be integrated into a current established lab science curriculum.
  • Summarize the design of escape rooms adapted for medical laboratory science education.
  • Describe the process of escape room implementation, and identify potential hurdles to success.
  • Evaluate the educational impact of the toxicology escape room, and identify changes to be incorporated into future iterations of the escape room activity.

CE ACCREDITATION
This recorded presentation is P.A.C.E. ® accredited. One (1) P.A.C.E. ® contact hour and one (1) Florida credit hour in the area GEN will be awarded to participants. ASCLS P.A.C.E.® is accepted by the ASCP/ASCLS/AGT Board of Certification and all states, including Florida and California, as an approved provider of continuing education for recertification and licensure. ASCLS is an approved provider with CE Broker for Florida licensees.
